Maricopa Medical Center Arizona Children's Center Proclamation Day

Thank you, Betsey, and good morning everyone!

What better way to start the day than with a commitment to the health and well being of children in our community!

This is the time for us to come together -- to re-dedicate ourselves to Arizona's children.

It is not just a charitable gesture -- but it is our CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY to emphasize that good, healthy lifestyle habits start first with the very young.
I'd like to recognize the community leadership of -- Arizona Children's Center -- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona -- and TGen -- for their extraordinary dedication to the preservation of our children's health and happiness.

National Child Health Day was first started by President Calvin Coolidge in 1929, so, in continuing that tradition, I'd like to read from a proclamation that I'm issuing today:

WHEREAS, encouraging current and upcoming generations to adopt healthful practices in daily lives will contribute to Arizona's progress; and

WHEREAS, fostering a community devoted to reducing rising childhood mental and physical concerns including obesity, asthma and allergies, as well as promoting healthy pregnancies, requires effort of citizens, the State and institutions devoted to advancing health and health care; and

WHEREAS, community leaders, including local organizations and businesses, have provided support to citizens and employees of all ages, making it possible for children and parents to make positive impacts on their own lives;
and

WHEREAS, Arizona Child Health Day, in line with national recognition, is a day devoted to the health and well being of children and will highlight the needs of Arizona's children and the power of promoting a lifelong pattern of healthy lifestyles.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Janice K. Brewer, Governor of the State of Arizona, do hereby proclaim October 4, 2010 ARIZONA CHILD HEALTH DAY

And I'd like to present this proclamation to Betsey Bayless, President and CEO of Maricopa Integrated Health System and Dr. Kote Chundu , Chairman of Maricopa Medical Center and Pediatrics at Arizona Children's Center and President of District Medical Group.

Congratulations to all of you, and God bless you.
